The Project Space

Temporary/Large-scale/Public art commission

Art Gym Denver is introducing The Project Space, a new dedicated semi-private space for professional artists needing a temporary dedicated workspace for a short-term project, large scale work or public art commission.

An artist or artists collaborating on a project can apply for a semi-private project space allowing the artist(s) to work on a large scale piece without having to move their work while in production and has room for material/equipment storage.  Floor workspace, table workspace, access to some basic hand and power tools, access through overhead garage doors and the ability to work outside where applicable are all available to the artist. There is a one-month minimum commitment and exceeding no longer than six months. Artists may bring in their own tools (need to be approved and qualified to use certain power tools).

This is NOT a private studio. The semi-private, project workspace is housed within our shared mixed media workspace but will be sectioned off with space dividers. It is expected that the artist(s) uphold the community aspect and shared workspace environment of Art Gym. At times, Art Gym staff may need access to the project space.

An assistant may be utilized for the duration of the project.  See contract for full details.

Artist collectives and other groups of artists working on the same project are allowed to apply for The Project Space. If accepted, each artist in the group must pay for a membership in addition to the $300 Project Space rental.

In the event that you finish your project ahead of schedule, your time in The Project Space will come to an end, and you will not be required to pay the monthly rental or membership fee for the remainder of the contract.  You still have the option to continue as a member using the shared workspaces.

Based on availability, it may be possible to extend the contract. You can also continue as just a member utilizing the shared workspace to finish your project.

    There is a one-month minimum and a six-month maximum.

    The Project Space is 108 sq/ft (9′ x 12′) with 12′ tall ceilings.

You would have access during open, operating hours at Art Gym, which are:

    Monday-Friday | 9AM-8PM
    Saturday-Sunday | Noon-8PM

We want to be sure the space is appropriate for your project before taking the time to fill out the application.

A shelf unit is included with The Project Space. Additional storage is available to rent; extra shelf storage for $20/mo. and lockable, rolling storage cart for $15/mo.

Yes, as long as it does not impede access to the other workspaces. You must clean up the space after working in the space each day.

Yes, however, we ask that you get approval first. We want to make sure that we can facilitate the use of the equipment and that you know how to use properly. The equipment will also need to fit on your shelf unit or brought back and forth to Art Gym.

If selected, the artist will go through the procedures to become a member of Art Gym. Membership will give the artist access to other workspaces and equipment (if qualified). Selected artists will also be required to sign a contract and adhere to that contract for the duration of the project. Artists may pay and stay on as a member after the duration of their project if desired.
