Miriam Dubinsky
Printmaker and Painter
I grew up in San Francisco, and moved to Chicago to study Painting and Printmaking at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. I moved to Colorado for work and eventually started my own small art business. I am primarily a printmaker and painter and have been working on a new series of hand cut paper collages in my studio recently.
What made you want to join Art Gym? I had heard from other artists that there was this awesome coworking space with access to fine art printmaking equipment. I joined in order to produce a small batch of a collaborative artist book for an exhibition. I really appreciated the supportive environment and the access to the facilities while I was producing this book and have been a member since 2017.
How has Art Gym helped with your art practice? Art Gym’s generous access to equipment and space has been such a strong pillar in my art making experience over the last several years in Denver. The open access and the terrific community of artists established within this space have had such a positive impact on both my personal and professional development. I have made so many great friendships while working at Art Gym.
What are you hoping to communicate through your work? I utilize bright colors and gestural brushwork in my prints and paintings to create a joyful experience for viewers of my work. I want my work to be very accessible to the public and so I sell my work at festivals and craft fairs in Denver and beyond.
Who and/or what are some of your biggest artistic influences? I am currently working on a series of larger floral screen prints. The last few years I have been primarily inspired by the flora and fauna of the western landscape but this is always changing.
What does your artwork mean to you? Creating artwork is such a joy for me and has allowed me the opportunity to build my own small business.
