Art Gym’s second annual Create Award Residency presents performing artist Rowan Salem and mixed media artist K. Vuletich. Each recent graduate has been awarded a 6-month Art Gym membership to create a body of work, which will be shown in a joint exhibition in Art Gym’s gallery space.
UNSEEN opens with a reception January 4, 2018, 5-8 pm at Art Gym Gallery, and runs through January 27, 2018. The show features two distinct bodies of work by emerging artists, both of which deal with themes of subjective experience, and the ways in which some stories and some aspects of reality are hidden, while others are revealed.
Rowan Salem, a recent transplant to Denver will use her dance background to create a dance-film installation, projecting her choreography onto transparent fabric and everyday objects in the space. Her work deals with themes of subjective reality, inviting viewers to consider the way information in their environment is revealed and seen, and the ways it is hidden and unseen.
Sharing the space with her will be native Coloradan K. Vuletich, who recently graduated from Regis College. Her art is inspired by her work at Urban Peak, a local homeless shelter for teens. For this body of work K. Vuletich spent time interviewing some of her clients, crafting mixed media portraits and using found objects to represent their stories and experiences. K. Vuletich will also present “Take a Piece and Leave a Piece,” an art-making workshop. Bring a piece of clothing and transform it into a piece of art. Workshop will take place Saturdays 1/14, 21, and 28 from 10am-2pm at Art Gym Gallery. Free and open to the public.
