This workshop is a collaboration between Art Gym Denver and InterOcean Studio. Co-taught by instructors Alanna Austin and Catherine Robinson, this workshop is a two-part, playful exploration of both silkscreen monotype and bookbinding.
In the first session, at Art Gym Denver, students will use the silkscreen process as a way of creating a collection of colorful, unique monotypes. Utilizing acrylic inks and water-soluble crayons, artists will paint and draw their images directly on the screens for printing. The method lends itself to both experimentation and variation.
In the second session, at InterOcean Studio, students will transform their screen printed monotypes into a hand-crafted artist book. Artists will hand cut, fold, and construct their own book from start to finish. Referred to as an accordion binding, the structure is extremely versatile with room for spontaneity in the binding process.
No experience is needed in either medium. All silkscreen and bookbinding materials and tools will be provided by the instructors for use in the class.
