Gallery Graphics for Reduce Your Use, Endangered Species, and Anthozoa

Art Gym is excited to announce our first physical exhibitions since reopening, Reduce Your Use, Endangered Species by Judith Bergquist, and Anthozoa by Caitlin Zeller in the Art Gym Gallery with three socially distanced openings on September 10, September 16, and September 26 from 5-8PM.

This exhibition is in celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day. Originally scheduled to take place in April, it was unfortunately delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The artwork in this exhibit should encourage viewers to recognize that we have to do more than recycle; we must reduce. The works are all made out of recycled or repurposed material and bring awareness to the effects of recycling/not recycling and climate change.

Now more than ever, we need to value and preserve the Earth. How are we as people responding to the Earth in this new world?

In conjunction with Reduce Your Use, we will be showing Endangered Species by Judith Bergquist, a series of paper painting portraits of endangered animals, as well as Anthozoa, embroidered fabric pieces exploring the differences in living and dying reefs by Caitlin Zeller. The disappearance of living organisms is at the core of both artists’ work. Bergquist explains that a goal of hers is to bring to light the variety of animals which are considered endangered. “I enjoy the act of building the work and producing the details of the image. Choosing dramatic landscapes and poses of animals not seen as often, providing visual images that surprise and delight the viewer.”

Similarly, Zeller’s focus is on highlighting humankind’s effect on our environment. In her statement, she declares, “Although vast, our world is fragile too. The difference in a healthy and dead reef is striking, the effects global. Impacting our world is unavoidable, however, we must work to preserve and protect it. Evidence of climate change is all around us, we cannot ignore the signs. We must change or we risk losing forever so much of the wonder it holds.”

The opening receptions and exhibitions are free and open to the public by appointment only, Monday through Friday, 9AM – 6PM. Contact gallery@artgymdenver.com to schedule a viewing They will be on view from September 10 through October 4, 2020.
