Catie Michel: Memoria | July 25 – August 18, 2024

Artist and scientific illustrator Catie Michel developed an intricate process to create a rich, multidimensional experience examining women and nonbinary individuals and their sense of place. First, she interviews her subjects, then photographs them, and finally, she creates large platinum-palladium portraits enhanced with hand-drawn graphite and paint elements to develop the final piece. The result is part prints, photographs, paintings, and drawings, capturing the essence of place, land, identity, relation, and community. Layered with an audio-visual element, viewers will have the unique opportunity to listen to snippets of interviews with the portrait subject. Experience Memoria, a multimedia series that bridges art, science, and community.
