Presenting new work from artist Ingrid vB. Porter in the Leyden Jar Gallery.
Exhibition Statment:
We are shaped by our relationships – in obvious ways and in unseen ways. When we choose partners, we learn to adjust here and there. Give a bit of space. Grow in ways we hadn’t imagined. We develop our own private language, our in-jokes. Lean on and support each other.
Loss irrevocably changes us. When we lose our person, we also lose who we were.
This body of work is an exploration of the uncharted territory that follows such a loss. The artist finds inspiration in a variety of sources – mythology, the natural world, cultural mourning practices, lived experience, and familiar terms such as “widow’s fog” – to weave together themes of grief and hope, memory and the unknown, brokenness and resilience.
The artwork invites viewers to consider what shapes us, and the turning points that re-shape us.
About the Artist:
Ingrid vB. Porter is a book artist and painter based in Denver, CO.
She is drawn to the book format, and often works with acrylics, colored pencil, and inks in transparent layers on paper and fabric. Her work explores issues that are both deeply personal as well as universal. “My pieces often begin with a personal experience or a societal issue that has gripped me. The resulting artwork speaks to our lived experiences and the deep commonalities of being human.” Her artists’ books are in the Tutt Library Special Collections at Colorado College and the University of Denver Library Special Collections, as well as in private collections. Ingrid holds degrees in fine art and in archetypal art therapy. She has studied with Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estes at her Archetypal Studies Institute, and at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland.
