Critique Facilitated by Corrina Espinosa

February 20, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Corrina Espinosa, critique facilitator

Join us Wednesday, February 20 from 7-9pm for our monthly critique session. This month we have Corrina Espinosa as our facilitator. Free and open to the public so bring your friends.

Corrina’s approach to critique utilizes four major cornerstones of art criticism: a formal evaluation of the overall composition by employing the elements and principles of design, a consideration of the level of craftsmanship, an assessment of the work’s visual literacy and its legibility, and an exploration of the artwork’s final display. But more importantly, she delves into the possibilities of artwork by pushing the boundaries of concoction. Corrina will ask— does this artwork have the three H’s? Head, Heart and Hand. Head means it’s sharp, clever, intelligent and provokes thought, heart means it has sensation, feeling and can evoke a deep human emotion, and hand means it’s well made, with the highest level of craft, an exquisite execution and a superb finish.

Corrina has always been an artist and storyteller. She grew up in Denver, where city life provided ample freedom, mischief and haphazard turmoil to inspire her playful, bizarre imagination. While earning her BFA in Sculpture from Metropolitan State University, she became fascinated with technology in art. She fine-tuned her use of electronics in illustrating strange and darkly humorous narratives as an MFA student at Colorado University. Using custom circuitry and laser cut components to animate paper dolls and other objects is her passion and life’s work. She is also an avid supporter of the arts and aims to improve and build-up the Denver art community. She spends most of her time in her private studio, Autonomous Soup in Arvada, but when she’s not tinkering with crazy new inventions or engineering mechanisms to add life to paper creatures, she works as an adjunct instructor at CU in Boulder and as a curator and gallerist at Cabal Gallery in Denver.
