Learn the basics of Copper Plate Intaglio Etching: basic mark-making techniques, including drypoint, followed by using ferric chloride for hard ground line etching and aquatint. Students will learn an overview of best practices in the printmaking studio including proper press set up, use, and clean up. Intaglio is a historic printing process and enjoyed for those who love working with line and tone. Participants will produce a small edition of their etched copper plate.
Note: ferric chloride has a mildly caustic odor and accompanying fumes. Our workspace is ventilated, but students may want to bring protective equipment such as safety goggles and a mask.
