Bambi O’Leary: a pig, horse, cow, and a chicken Opening Reception

January 25 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Open January 25 – February 18.

Art Gym is excited to present “a pig, horse, cow, and a chicken“, an upcoming  solo exhibition of new work from member Bambi O’Leary, on view in The Leyden Jar. Please join us and the artist for a reception on Thursday January 25 from 6-9PM. Thank you to Ratio Beerworks for providing beer for this event!

The initial spark for this collection was ignited when my mother requested a series of painted barn animals for her office in order to provide a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere for the children she worked with daily. What originated as a playful gesture evolved into a personal challenge to navigate the struggle against perfectionism, resulting in a unique artistic stylization that perfectly contrasts imperfection and permanency.

Each piece is a testament to the fusion of traditional sewing techniques with the dynamic world of collage. The thread, meticulously sewn onto carefully curated paper collages, breathes life into these familiar barnyard inhabitants, blurring the boundaries between two-dimensional art and tactile craftsmanship.

“a pig, horse, cow, and a chicken” invites viewers to not only witness the whimsical tales spun by these barn animals but also to reflect on the transient nature of perfection and the enduring legacy of art. The permanency of the medium serves as a poignant reminder that within every imperfection lies a unique story, stitched into the fabric of creativity and resilience.

This series is an ode to the beauty found in embracing the imperfect, a celebration of the dance between flaw and finesse that defines the artistic journey.

Born and raised against the breathtaking backdrop of Colorado I embarked on my artistic journey after graduate school, seeking a convergence between analytical precision and the boundless realm of creativity. A data scientist by day, I found my artistic voice in the intertwining of statistics and the expressive world of artistic expression.

In the studio, where I am free to explore, experiment, and evolve, I discovered the liberating power of mixed media. The fusion of disparate elements mirrors the intersection of my scientific background with the uncharted territories of mixed media. This journey has been a deeply personal exploration, allowing me to discover the nuances of my own creative identity.
