Art Rocks III

September 14, 2017 @ 5:00 pm - October 7, 2017 @ 6:00 pm

Art Rocks gallery graphic. September 9th thru October 7th

Art Gym Denver is celebrating for the 3rd year in a row its annual Art Rocks exhibition, to showcase rocks in paintings, installations and jewelry design, presenting artists Rob Gratiot (painting), Phil Bender (installation art) and jewelry artists Randy Burns, Robbi Farschman, Jessica Lycan and Hillary Muramoto.

You are invited to the Opening and Artist reception on Thursday September 14, from 5 – 8pm to meet the artists, enjoy the artwork and food and drinks. The event is free and open to the public.

Rob Gratiot’s paintings combine a strong sense of abstraction and realism. These paintings play on contrasts between transparency, translucency, and opacity; and allow him to use contrasts for visual power. In his own words: “my “agates” series are a strong part of my still life paintings. I enjoy painting small scale objects a lot bigger than they actually are, and I like pushing them all together to create a very high-density subject matter.”

Phil Bender’s art consists of collecting and ordering found objects that he will position in a grid like pattern. This might sound very simple but he will surprise us (and himself) when he will create his assemblages with rocks that he will find in and around Art Gym.

Randy Burns is Art Gym’s Director, jewelry and has had the opportunity to design, create, sell and exhibit jewelry in several states in the U.S., Europe and Japan as well as having taught Jewelry and Metals for over a decade.

Robbi Farschman is a self -taught jewelry designer that made Denver recently her home. “I work primarily in sterling, though copper and bits of gold find their way into her work, and drool-worthy stones are the norm. Much of my current line contains bold pieces that celebrate both structure and the beauty of decay. (I think of them as modern heirlooms.”

Jessica Lycan again says it best in her own words: “There’s a story & specific intention behind every piece I make. A part of my soul is set with each stone & solder. At times I pause to dance, sing, and sometimes even cry over my work, as a design comes to fruition. My greatest hope for my jewelry is that each piece brings its wearer the sense of empowerment & protection I felt when creating it.”

Hillary Muramoto is also a member artist at Art Gym and self – taught jewelry designer. “Metalsmithing has been a huge step in my creativity, and sparks my mind, my heart, and inspiration every day. The work that comes through me embodies the transformations of our human experiences and is raw, uninhibited, energetic, fierce, and graceful.”
